Kennedy says he will answer questions if he runs for president
Sen Edward M Kennedy told a news conference he would respond to questions about the Chappaquiddick incident if he seeks the presidency in 1976. He acknowledged the July 1969 drowning as a deep personal tragedy and accepted responsibility while addressing a fundraising dinner with Bayh Madden and Fithian. Demonstrators outside protested his possible candidacy as he discussed economy and taxes and urged patience with Ford’s handling of economic issues.

Haig defends Nixon files transfer as normal
Washington observes that White House Chief of Staff Alexander Haig Jr said procedures for moving Nixon's files from the White House to San Clemente were normal. He noted a truck with material awaiting shipment, but the transfer was halted briefly to verify no evidentiary material was being shipped at the request of Watergate lawyer J. Fred Buzhardt.
