Radiation Leak at Frenchman Flat Fallout Test
An Atomic Energy Commission spokesman reported a radiation leak at the Frenchman Flat underground test site after a 20 000 kiloton device malfunctioned. The fault in the ground was blamed for the shaft leaking radioactive material into the desert area. Officials said the area was not released to the public and no devices escaped the underground cavity.
