Scotland backs offshore drilling in North Sea plan
Lord Clydesmuir of the Bank of Scotland leads a trade mission linking 209 companies with the Orange County Financial Society at Newport Road. He says offshore sites identified and full-scale drilling could recover a 20 billion investment by the late 1980s, noting Arab capital is possible while Japanese interest centers on drilling tech and pipelines. The plan envisages rigs 500 feet tall, 80 to 150 miles offshore with long pipelines and 5 inch conduits for 20 offshore islands, each with 80 drilling sites.
