Russia Nears Nuclear Parity In ICBMs And Submarines
London reports the Institute for Strategic Studies says the Soviet Union has reached parity with the United States in ICBMs and is nearing a lead in strategic missiles. By end-1969 Moscow may deploy about 100 more ICBMs than the US, while the US still leads in submarine launched ballistic missiles. China’s missile progress is slower, with no clear steps toward medium range rockets or oceanic tests. The survey notes troop movements along the Sino Soviet border and that Arab forces are better equipped since 1967.
