First baby born to mother on dialysis survives
A 30s woman on thrice weekly kidney dialysis during pregnancy and birth has a healthy baby girl born at 31 weeks. The infant weighed 3.5 pounds at birth, now about 4.5 pounds at home in the San Francisco area. Doctors say the child’s kidneys function normally and pregnancy posed extra strain on the mother’s failing kidneys.
