Immunizing Crops With Human Vaccine Approach Reported
University of Kentucky researcher Dr. Joseph Kue told the American Chemical Society meeting that plant immunization may curb diseases in crops like watermelons and cucumbers. In trials 66 immunized watermelons exposed to disease mostly survived while 47 of 69 nonimmunized ones died, suggesting practical use. The process uses noninfectious germs injected into leaves to trigger immunity.
