Hayes sworn in to fill Chace seat in hopeful bid
Assemblyman James A. Hayes was sworn in to fill the late Burton W. Chace’s term in Los Angeles County, accompanied by his wife and two sons. Hayes will seek reelection on November 7, taking the oath from Municipal Court Judge Albert as an overflow crowd looked on in the Hall of Administration. He resigned his 39th Assembly District seat. Hayes touted responsibility and planned to meet district leaders on pending issues. In a separate note, China's Huang Jun became president of the United Nations Security Council, the first time China presides since joining the UN.
