EPA Ordered to Decide on Leaded Gasoline Phased Rollback
The U S Court of Appeals requires the EPA to decide within 80 days on a phased lead reduction plan for all gasoline grades. The suit by the Natural Resources Defense Council and 12 groups followed a January proposal by William D Ruckelshaus and regulations mandating lead free gasoline availability by mid 1974. The plan limits lead to 2 g/gal in 1975, 1.7 in 1976, 1.5 in 1977, and 1.25 after 1978, with cost savings offsetting a small rise in gasoline price.
