Inflation War Stans Says Administration Winning
Secretary Maurice Stans told the Los Angeles business audience that inflation is being checked yet progress will be slow. He defended gradual fiscal tightening and said wage-price fixing is unlikely, predicting prices rise through 1970 at a slower pace while unemployment remains modest. Labor leaders condemned the stance, urging firmer action and warning cuts in space programs could raise unemployment in aerospace regions. The UAW and IAM leaders cited McDonnell Douglas plants in Huntington Beach and Santa Monica among key aerospace employers.
