Negroes Demand Firing Black Study Head at UCSB
About 50 Negro students at the University of California Santa Barbara marched into a sociology class led by Black Studies Department head Professor Seth Fisher and then to the chancellor's office urging his firing. Chancellor Vernon I. Cheadle formed a committee to study discontent sources while Fisher argued the group seeks authority over him. The protest stressed demands for a wholly Black staff and student body, while Fisher urged inclusion of white staff.
