Veteran detective beaten after car stop on Signal Hill
Long Beach Detective Inspector Maurice Wishan, 45, head of the commercial burglary detail, was assaulted by six or seven men from two cars on a Signal Hill street. He sustained cuts and bruises, then drove to a service station and later to Seaside Hospital. Wishan, a 27-year veteran, could not explain the motive and was recovering at home.

Remains Recovered of All 16 KCST Tanker Crew
Coconino County sheriff reports all 16 crew members of the giant four engine tanker from Walker Air Force Base Roswell New Mexico have been found after Tuesday crash into Gray Mountain 40 miles north of Flagstaff. Eight bodies recovered Tuesday and the rest found scattered over a wide area this morning. Two Air Force helicopters from Luke AFB aiding recovery. The crash occurred during routine training in fog near a mountain butte 50 miles from the Grand Canyon collision site in 1956.
