Adults in Long Beach program help mentally retarded develop
The Long Beach Retarded Children's Foundation runs the area’s only adult development program for mentally retarded adults, ages 18 and up, with six-hour sessions daily. They learn cooking, grooming, social skills, and basic work tasks, then may join Hillside Enterprises' sheltered workshop. The program, costing about 45 to 50 thousand dollars yearly, relies on public and private funds and parent contributions, while fostering community integration through trips and activities.
