GOP Negro Refuses to Endorse Reagan

Ben Perry a member of the Republican State Central Committee and a Negro refused Monday to endorse Gov Ronald Reagan for re election. He told a Los Angeles news conference that Reagan's administration had as much understanding and sensitivity as Bull Connors to black problems. Perry who ran for the Assembly from Watts in 1968 said he would not endorse Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jess Unruh either. He called Reagan's minority program a tragic comedy of errors and said racism has become a way of life in the governor's administration. He noted rewards for a black man's loyalty and said Watts has received little economic development due to Reagan's lack of concern. He warned that lack of leadership could have already planted the seeds for a new disaster.
