Mellon heir gives $1 million to Nixon fund
Pittsburgh aide to Richard Mellon Scaife confirms the Mellon heir contributed $1 million to President Nixon’s reelection campaign before the legal deadline. Frayer notes 534 checks totaled $1 million and ties to Scaife’s support for Nixon, with possible other contributions to House and Senate races. Also revealed, Nicholas and Daniel Noyes loaned McGovern about $500,000, the largest by any single family so far.
