Heart Attack Forecasts Seen As Major Medical Advance
A panel at the American Heart Association meeting in Los Angeles hailed predictive ability for heart attacks as a major medical advance. Dr. Jeremiah Stamier noted prevention is key since 26 percent of heart attacks are fatal within the first hour and 40 percent within six weeks. The panel outlined coronary risk factors including high cholesterol, high blood pressure, smoking, lack of exercise, diabetes, and personality type. Other studies noted include a coronary personality pattern and experimental approaches such as compressing arteries to aid recovery, synthetic hearts in dogs, and hepatocatalase reducing cholesterol.
