U S Raises Assistance to Elderly
Washington announces a broad federal aid agreement to support elderly residents in public housing. The Public Housing Administration will fund central kitchens and dining rooms, health and social services, and education and recreation programs while Welfare Administration funds 75 percent of social services. Emphasizing in-home independence, the plan cites nutrition and health care as key to keeping seniors in their own homes.
