Richardson quits but backs Nixon in Watergate row
Former attorney general Richard Richardson explained his resignation from the Nixon administration while affirming support for administration goals. He said the public must judge Watergate events, endorsed Cox's independence, and predicted the probe would continue under Petersen. He described eight days of negotiations over tapes and a summary transcript as a reasonable settlement.
