Tunney Backs Draft and Warns on All Professional Army

Democratic U S Senate candidate John Tunney urged maintaining the draft and warned that an all volunteer army would invite military adventurism. He spoke to PG&E workers in San Francisco and faced access denial to a construction site before holding a sidewalk discussion about Angela Davis. Tunney criticized abolition of the draft while defending draftees as moderating forces, and he campaigned in Richmond and Sunset districts, shaking hands with residents. He noted his opponent George Murphy voted against the average working man amid the Davis arrest context.
