Four youths sentenced to death in Chattanooga rape case
In Chattanooga Tennessee four of six young Negroes were condemned to die by electric chair for raping a white girl in a secluded lover's lane. An all-male Criminal Court jury deliberated three hours after a daylong trial. Wilson Williams 17 Robert Parks 23 James E Cunningham 22 and J C Kelley 17 were named among the defendants awaiting appeal. Two others, James Wood 17 and Freddie Williams 19, were held separate and to be tried on charges later. The victim was a 15 year old native of Twentynine Palms California visiting relatives in the area. The court release noted ongoing legal action following Tennessee law and potential further proceedings.
