Adventurer Found After 58 Mile Atlantic Quest
Adventurer Melvin West, reported missing after a three day fuel supply, was sighted Monday aboard an outboard motorboat 240 miles east of Cape Lookout. The Morehead City resident, a Korean War veteran with 10 percent disability, set out from Morehead City to test sea worthiness of small boats and 40 hour trips. West’s father Barry praised his son’s persistence as coast guard ships and Bermuda planes continued checks.
