Copper coins drive many daily products through research by oil and chemical industries. Nylon stockings use about 12 cents of raw nylon, refrigeration relies on pennies worth of refrigerants, and silicate bonds in TVs cost a few cents. The dye in fabrics, bleaching agents, and petroleum based retardants also show how pennies fund essential chemicals.
