Indian Population Grows Four Times Nation’s Rate
New census figures show the American Indian population rising faster than the general population. Analysts attribute this to public health gains improving life expectancy and cutting infant mortality, with the 1950 to 1987 life expectancy for Indians increasing from 60 to 64 years while whites rose from 68 to 70.
