Kleindienst touts crime control at Anaheim meeting
U S Attorney General Richard Kleindienst told delegates at the League of Californians Cities Conference in Anaheim that direct federal enforcement against organized crime and drug trafficking, along with federal aid to state and local agencies, has helped lower crime. He cited FBI data showing a small rise in serious crime in early 1972 and highlighted LEAA-funded programs in Compton, Orange County, Los Angeles, and Bellflower. He also noted indictments against more than 3,000 defendants in 1972 and criticized Senator McGovern’s voting record on crime.
