California controller race centered on big money ties
Sacramento reporting shows Republican William Bagley facing Democrat Ken Cary in a bitter bid to be California controller. Bagley defends large contributions from Orange County figures and firm clients tied to oil and utilities, while Cary accuses Bagley of being beholden to Southern Pacific PG and E and oil interests. Both cite independence as the core issue in the contest to succeed Houston Prouty.
