A 63-year-old Bellflower woman Elizabeth Bulls died after being stabbed 23 times with a five inch knife in her Oak Street home. Suspect William Earl Cotter 23 surrendered later and confessed to the murder during the police inquiry.
Four star General Harkins and aides survived a crash landing at a remote airstrip near Di Linh in South Vietnam. The U S transport plane struck the ground when the landing gear failed to deploy, leaving the aircraft badly damaged with no serious injuries reported among those aboard.
A minor earthquake rattled homes across Massachusetts New Hampshire and Rhode Island. Residents reported tremors felt from Boston to Cape Cod as buildings shook and dishes rattled. No injuries were reported though police and fire units handled frantic calls.
