The House Education and Labor Committee approved a bill to raise the federal minimum wage to $2 an hour next January for about 35 million workers, with 24 voting for and 7 against. The measure, stronger than Nixon’s plan, adds anti hire of illegal aliens tied to a Nixon nominee’s food plant graft finding and expands coverage to state and local government, preschool, domestic, and conglomerate workers. Farm wages rise to $1.50 next January and $1.70 a year later, with farm coverage going to $1.60 for nonfarm workers in later proposals.

Viet Cong Says Nixon Must Deal Here to End War
Viet Cong and North Vietnamese delegates in Paris told reporters that peace can be reached only through negotiations at the Paris talks, not by Nixon visiting Beijing or Moscow. They demanded Nixon answer their proposals at the conference and criticized U S moves as they protest a road in the Demilitarized Zone and urge flexible bargaining while Porter's briefing noted North Vietnam’s influence in the South was at an all time low.
