Two Los Angeles men escaped death when a seven-foot dinghy separated from a 48-foot Chris-Craft after an alcohol stove exploded in the galley three miles off Newport Jetty. John H. Nelson and H. S. Boy Drowns Reaching for Object at Costa Mesa Pool
Six year old Mark Anthony DeWitt of 225 Cabrillo St. died after entering via a six foot chain link fence into an apartment pool area at 1753 Santa Ana Ave. He fell into the shallow end while reaching for a black object and drowned.
