In Port Elizabeth South Africa a new sport called underwater hockey has taken hold. Three-player teams use small sticks and a rubber-coated lead puck to push it along the pool bottom while players wear masks snorkels and trunks. A referee from above rules the game as players dive for air between 20 and 30 minute sessions.

The Long Beach Rockets, champions of the Southern California Water Baseball League, will open the 1963 64 season Sunday with an exhibition game against Placentia at 2 pm at Blair Field. General manager Ir Weissner says league schedule formalities will be settled Monday at a Los Angeles board meeting. The Rockets will play Sundays at Blair Field through winter.
