California housing foes prefabricated factory homes surge
California moves to flood the state with low cost prefabricated houses built in factories and assembled on site. The 10 000 three bedroom model aims to address housing shortages for Mexican American farm workers, suburban whites, and urban Blacks, with state inspectors overseeing factory production and on site power and water hookups managed locally. Governor Reagan touts faster delivery, job creation, and space age tech as the bill takes effect January 1.

State housing chief cites gap in production target
The state housing chief says the plan aims to produce 290 thousand housing units annually by 1978 but current output is only 160 thousand. Supporters expect the program will later reach lower-cost homes and expand to higher income groups with varied styles from adobe to brick designs.
