Five Men Held in $493000 Postal Thefts
Los Angeles and Denver police hold five men in a pair of post office burglaries totaling $493,000. The Enceño Post Office raid on Sept. 2 and Catalina station burglary in Pasadena on Sept. 19 were disclosed by assistant postal inspector J. G. Hudson. Seized were $25,000 in stamps and 3,600 blank money orders. about 1,000 blank money orders worth up to $100,000 remain missing. Arrested in Los Angeles were Howard Jensen of Temple City, Alfred Harflinger of St. Louis, and John We Alexander of Costa Mesa. Denver police detained Clarence Kostich and Richard A. Duncan of St. Louis. Kostich and Duncan were free on bail awaiting federal trial for bank robbery.

Infrared Telescope Maps Skies Near Boston and Darien
An infrared telescope at ITT Federal Laboratories in Cambridge Massachusetts has begun mapping the sky to detect silent satellites. The device, valued for heat detection, already covers about 20 percent of the sky and has found several stars not listed in catalogs. The project uses a four foot long cylinder telescope with a 20 inch lens and reflects infrared heat onto detectors. Bayard Colgate, 65, longtime Colgate-Palmolive president, died in Darien Connecticut.
