Never-Before-Published Lincoln Poem Discovered
A doggerel poem by Abraham Lincoln about Gettysburg was found in Brown University’s John Hay Collection and published in Look magazine. The piece dated July 19, 1863, two weeks after Lee’s defeat, contrasts with the somber Gettysburg Address. A Gardner photograph, praised as Lincoln’s superb likeness, was also released.
