Peace Corps Volunteer Tom Dawson Freed by Soviet Union
Washington UPI reports Peace Corps volunteer Tom Dawson of Annapolis Maryland has been released by Soviet authorities after being held since September 1 for crossing the Russian Iranian border. A Peace Corps spokesman said Dawson is in Tehran and in good health. Deputy Chief Davis Rost er appealed to the Soviet foreign ministry for his release and the State Department said the Soviets would free him. Maryland Democrat Joseph Tydings noted the decision was explained to Dawson's mother.
