Swiss Official Killed Self in Spy Probe
Swiss Attorney General Rene Dubois killed himself after subordinates accused him of spying for France. Government officials say Dubois exceeded legal limits in contacts with French intelligence agent Marcell Mercier. Mercier, listed as commercial attache at the French embassy, was expelled from Switzerland after Dubois death. Police heads Fritz Dick and Andre Amstein faced questions over whether Dubois passed classified information to Mercier. Ulrich, an inspector, was jailed earlier for tapping Egyptian embassy conversations. No proof Dubois or Ulrich profited financially from France.
