Five Tankers At 25 Million Each Largest Private Ship Order
New York shipping magnate Daniel Ludwig, head of National Bulk Carriers, ordered five oil tankers of 104,500 deadweight tons each in what was described as the largest private shipbuilding order in maritime history. Estimated cost around 25 million dollars per vessel, with completion of the first by next year. Ludwig’s order boosts his fleet beyond 20 million deadweight tons, eclipsing rivals Stavros Niarchos and Aristotle Onassis in private tonnage.
