Police Sergeant Fired Amid Councilman Confrontation

In Brea a 40 year old police sergeant Lester Pierce was dismissed for swearing and rough handling during a church incident near a street confrontation with councilman Sam Magnus. The firing follows a council probe labeled a witch hunt by Pierce and notes the department faces internal problems. Magnus said the incident involved a shotgun muzzle being shaken near his nose as Pierce threatened to appeal the dismissal and questioned the investigation's scope.

Connally Wins Texas Governorship After Navy Service

Gov Connally, 46, longtime ally of Vice President Johnson, won Texas’s governorship after serving as Navy Secretary under Kennedy. He defeated Jack Cox in November 1962, previously dedicated a Navy landing at Long Beach in 1961, and was noted as a conservative with liberal leanings.

Kennedy Predicts New Rocket Booster To Lead Space Race

President Kennedy told a rain soaked Fort Worth crowd that the United States will launch a new rocket booster early next year. He said the booster will be the most powerful in history, putting the nation ahead of the Soviet Union in the space race. Los Angeles Board Votes to Halt Disruptions at Meetings
