Coast Guard rescues New Jersey youth from stalled Gulf boat
Mickey Panella, 20, of West New York, N J, drifted for days after his 16 foot boat failed off Florida's coast. A Coast Guard helicopter plucked him about 35 miles from shore after he cooked half-raw fish on a gasoline fire. He says he came to Florida to be a commercial fisherman but changed his mind. A Coast Guard physician noted minor exposure.

Ex-Turkish Head Freed for Infanticide
On Yassiada Island the special high court acquitted former Turkish Premier Adnan Menderes and associates of ordering the killing of an illegitimate child born to him and an opera singer. Dr Fahmi Atabey, Istanbul gynecologist, also acquitted of the alleged murder on Menderes orders. The Baby Case trial opened December 14 with witnesses testifying the June 1955 premature infant died before Atabey's arrival.

Rampage suspect shot and youth dies in New Orleans

Miner Freed After 70 Hours in Timmins Cave-In
British immigrant miner Alan Rose was rescued from Hollinger gold mine in Timmins Ontario after 70 hours trapped by rubble. He was carried out on a stretcher at 4 p.m. to St Mary's Hospital for examination, while rescuers reported the cave-in began at 2 p.m. Saturday and trapped him and Rose.
