California to cut 172000 AFDC payments under plan
The Reagan administration proposed AFDC changes in California that would reduce payments to 172,000 welfare families by an average $54, while 228,000 families would gain about $20. The cuts total $9.28 million and the increases $4.56 million. The plan follows a judge ruling that state payments were below federal standards and could take effect in two months pending court approval.
