Witnesses heard a single gunshot as a man ran away in a car. homicide detective Set. Robert Decley said a murder for hire theory is possible since the victim's pocket held only 5500 in cash and nothing else was stolen. The victim rented the building for a carpet business and the shooting occurred after a calm conversation about carpeting. The assailant was described as about 25, tall, with black hair, wearing a long coat.

Careening car plunges into ocean four die
Ventura AP four persons were killed when their car left U S 101 south of the Santa Barbara Ventura line and plunged into the ocean. A 21 year old Union City woman was rescued and taken to St Francis Hospital Santa Barbara. The victims included the survivor's three year old daughter and one year old sister in law and her sister in law's young son all Union City and the survivor's four year old mother from Chicago. The driver may have fallen at the wheel. The sheriff's dive team and Coast Guard recovered three bodies and located the fourth.
