Can't Pay Rent Triggers Bank Robbery Tunnel Collapse
A would be burglar in Watts abandoned a tunnel dug under a vacant shop at 11009 S Main St near Bank of America after rent arrears. Police found a 20 foot long four foot wide tunnel beneath the vault area with a six foot deep dugout and a blocked concrete crosspiece. The landlady said the renter paid $180 July 19 and $90 later for rent but disappeared leaving only dirt and a tense scene.

A six man coroner jury in Mesa Arizona found that Robert Benjamin Smith 18 was responsible for a mass killing at a beauty school last Saturday five women and two children died from gunshot wounds. The jury identified the deceased and the means of death after physicians and witnesses testified. Smith was arrested without resistance and was present at the scene.
