Weinberger Opposes Shell Leadership Bid in California GOP
Sacramento dispatch reports a growing feud for control of the California Republican Party. Weinberger, chairman, accuses Shell of aiming to seize power to aid ambitions after Nixon's loss. He says Shell seeks leadership to further a conservative shift, while Weinberger emphasizes party leadership by the statewide Central Committee. The comment comes as leaders affirm Kuchel as titular party head and as Shell, LA assemblyman, faces defeat in the gubernatorial bid context.
