Bay Shore church opens after 14 year plan led by Rev Gabrielson
The new Basilica type Bay Shore Community Congregational Church at The Toledo and Granada Ave opened for worship today. Volunteer parishioners and friends built it, marking the climax of a 14 year plan under Rev Milton G Gabrielson who arrived in 1936. Work began on two miles of railroad track to link Douglas Aircraft Co Long Beach plant with the Union Pacific Signal Hill brand, with diesel engines to cut noise. Thirty years ago the city council reopened the issue of letting automobiles on Rainbow Pier, sparked by Public Service Director Adams recommending road traffic on the pier. City Manager Lewis approved.
