Dooley Wins Half of Request for Parking Lot Permit
Councilman Charles R. Dooley won one point and lost another in his bid for a parking lot permit at 6975 Long Beach Blvd for his hardware store. Planners allowed a lot at 21 W. Home but rejected 23 W. Home. They approved rezoning for a possible park near the first lot, while the second lot was denied due to impact on nearby residents. About 25 property owners protested the hearing, fearing declines in residential values. Dooley argued the project would improve the area. The commission also granted a permit for California Heights Community Methodist Church at 1160 E. Bixby Rd for a second parking lot at 9758 Cerritos Ave in an R-2 zone.
