Warner Brothers says Frank Sinatra 54 will not star in Dead Right a film about a citywide sniper chase due to ongoing pain after June hand operation for Dupuytren's contracture. The studio notes the role required substantial hand use and action as a cop chasing the criminal.
Sandor W. Shapery, a 36 year old third year student at the University of San Diego Law School, accuses attorney Melvin Belli of defrauding him by taking possession of an article Shapery wrote for Belli. Shapery seeks 100000 dollars and says the work was to be coauthored and published in the university law review in January under Belli’s name, which would harm his reputation and earning potential. Belli calls the suit a publicity stunt and says he agreed to help only as a group law student research project.
Marianne Faithfull, the actress and former pop singer, collapsed in her Birmingham hotel room and was rushed to hospital unconscious. Doctors emptied her stomach with a pump, and a spokesman said she remained unconscious but out of danger. Police identified her after admission, noting a prior drug overdose near death last year.
London Reuters United Press International reports bookmaker Joe Coral names Miss Canada NorYma Joyce Hickey aged 19 as the favorite to win Miss World this year. Coral cites substantial bets and lists four joint second favorites Miss United Kingdom Yvonne Anne Ormes Miss Austria Rosemarie Resch Miss Australia Vall Kemp and Miss Sweden Maj Cristel Johansson.
SAIGON UPI reports Americans endured a 48 hour period without a combat fatality in Vietnam marking a five year low in weekly casualties. Military officials cited no significant U.S. combat deaths or clashes during the period ending noon today.
In New Castle Delaware a boxer dog named J R fussed over four bandits who were friendly to him while his master was robbed of 3000 dollars in cash and 150 dollars in jewelry. James D Baines, the dog’s owner, said he was less than pleased with the dog. In 1966 Baines was ordered to pay a restaurant customer 575 dollars in damages after being bitten by J B.
Ten people were wounded in three shootings in Carbondale Illinois including four police officers. One STU guard said a man fired from a van on campus. A second attack involved a car stopping at an intersection and a shotgun discharge. The Washington Street residence shootout lasted hours near the Black Panther party HQ.

A married Army private from Adelphi Maryland was charged with unpremeditated murder in the August killing of Red Cross Doughnut Dolly Virginia Kirsch 21 of Brookfield Ohio. Roger A Christian 20 of the Second Brigade Headquarters Co 25th Infantry Division was arrested November 2 as the suspect in the slaying at cu Chi. He is held at Long Binh stockade and faces a military trial with a maximum life term. Kirsch had been in Vietnam two weeks and was to join the Red Cross team at the base camp.
