Family Reunites After 11 Years in Siberian Camp
William Gaveus of Oak Park Chicago welcomed his Lithuanian wife Monika and children Ruth, 36, and Tomuaida, 13, at Midway Airport after 12 years of separation. Monika and the kids spoke Russian and Lithuanian as they reunited following a Soviet release. The couple married in 1939, and Gaveus financed much of the journey with the help of attorney Marshall MacDuffie who pressed Khrushchev for their return.
