Corsair Is New Subsonic Jet Bomber With Longer Range
The Navy unveils a subsonic carrier jet bomber dubbed Corsair that aims to boost bombing accuracy and range. About 4,000 units are planned, offering reduced expected circle of error, with 29,100 pounds of bombs and rockets capacity. Tests at Patuxent River showed a single engine design descended from the Corsair lineage, derived from the Crusader as a Skyhawk replacement. The aircraft will usually slow to subsonic speeds on firing, needing escort, but carries air-to-air missiles to improve self defense.
