Non Parents group promotes choice on childbearing
The National Organization for Non Parents, based in Baltimore and with 2000 members, aims to counter societal pressure to have children. Executive director Carole Goldman says the group offers a brochure Am I Parent Material and is designing nationwide pre parenthood counseling and teen programs to help people decide if parenting fits their lifestyle, finances, and energy. They cite teen pregnancy data from 1975 and stress that counseling can assist couples whether to have children and how parenthood requires commitment beyond other life roles.
