Fugitives hold family as snowstorm delays escape plan
Two escaped prisoners John Morgan and Willian L Winans holed up a farm family of six while 50 officers surrounded the white frame farmhouse in Minnesota. A light aircraft sat at Wadena Airport under a deputy pilot as weather cut visibility to under a mile delaying the getaway. Morgan said he did not want to hurt anyone and negotiations continued with Cass County officials. In separate item, former rear admiral Kiyohide Shima, once a commander in the Japanese 5th Fleet, died at 83 of septicemia in Tokyo.
