Wonder Bread Ad Claims Barred by FTC Ruling

The Federal Trade Commission ruled Wonder Bread ads falsely claimed extraordinary growth benefits for children, reversing an examiner and exonerating ITT Continental Baking Co on other charges. The decision ends most claims against the brand while requiring no corrective ads.

Five vent pipe firms plead no contest to price fixing

Five companies that supplied more than half the vent pipe used for gas appliance installations pleaded no contest to price fixing charges in Los Angeles. Indicted Oct. 4 by a federal grand jury, the firms face up to $50,000 fines each and were to be sentenced Dec. 3. The case covers a conspiracy from 1962 onward to fix vent pipe prices sold to sheet metal and heating contractors, with 1970 sales totaling $12 million and a 56 percent market share. The defendants include American Metal Products Corp of Los Angeles Dora Vent Corp of Redwood City, Manufacturing Co of Helland, General Products Co Inc of Fredericksburg, and Metal Fab Inc of Wichita.
