Judge for Harrises removed from Los Angeles case

Superior Court Judge Homer H. Bell was removed from the Symbionese Liberation Army defendants William andEmily Harris case by the state Court of Appeal. The panel found no bias but ruled the Harris defense would have a peremptory challenge to remove a judge without cause. William Rizzi, the presiding criminal calendar judge, will select a replacement by November 14 for the next pretrial hearing. Leonard Weinglass criticized Bell as the least acceptable judge to defense attorneys in Los Angeles County and Bell defended his conduct and toughness.
