Respectable fugitive freed after guilty plea cited by judge
Judge Jack Etheridge released Anthony a 28 year old fugitive who fled a prison camp in 1963 after a six year run and living as James Burnett. He had been arrested last summer after an informant linked him to a Atlanta produce business with a wife and four children. Anthony said he pled guilty under frightful circumstances to a robbery when a gunman and accomplice took 341.50 from a store. He claimed an uncle pressured the plea with promises of money and a car, while the judge noted lack of effective counsel. Etheridge voided the sentence and granted freedom. Also in Miami, Police Chief Bernard Garmire fired officer Donny Zell for insubordinate conduct over grooming rules. Zell plans to seek new work as Paul Pollack appeals a Civil Service case.
